Mounting Speed

As for Chip Shooter, 12 to 13 years ago, rotary type was a main-stream but nowadays, modular type replaces it. A proper understanding of the speed of mounting speed is decively and deeply related with factory productivity and manufacturing cost.

Rotary type Chip Shooter talks a cycle time of one chip placement, but on the other hand, Modular type talks by "CPH" - Chip per Hour.B11. 50-60KCPH models are popular in the market, 100K-120KCPH are available as well.

We have to be careful of each maker's CPH standard - PCB size, numbers of component, placement position and etc. where these criteria are depending on each maker, it is not standardized!  Each maker uses their own preferred conditions and standard. In the factory, various factors like loading time, component supply, pickup miss, mounting miss and etc. affect CPH.  That's why PCB size, numbers of component, component type, job volume must be taken into depth and forth consideration for machine selection. Otherwise, high-speed chip shooter may not always be suitable for higher productivity.

Below is an example comparison for 500 components placement by 100K/60K CPH chip mounter.

Mounter Tact 500pts Loading + 5.0 sec PCB/H CPH Mount Rate
10CPH 0.036s 18s 23s 156pcs 78,000 78% 22%ダウン
6CPH 0.06s 30s 35s 102pcs 51,000 85% 15%ダウン

As per mentioned, 100KCPH mounter generates faster cycle time, but, loading time increases accordingly, and machine efficiency drops.

100KCPH high-speed mounter is suitable for higher components no. and higher volume job.

I'll upload other production conditions in my next blog.
